01. Important Safety Information
IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE USE
Read these precautions before using the sauna. Always follow the separate heater manufacturer’s safety and operating instructions.
MEDICAL PRECAUTIONS
Consult a healthcare professional before sauna use if you have heart or blood-pressure conditions, are pregnant or have other medical concerns.
BEFORE ENTERING THE SAUNA
- Do not use the sauna when unwell, dizzy or extremely fatigued.
- Never use the sauna after consuming alcohol.
- Remove jewellery, watches and other items that may become hot.
- Ensure you feel well enough to tolerate heat exposure.
WARNING — DURING YOUR SESSION
- Never sleep inside the sauna.
- Exit immediately if you experience dizziness, breathing difficulty, weakness or discomfort.
- Rise slowly when leaving the bench.
- Allow your body to cool down gradually.
CHILDREN & SUPERVISION
Children require close adult supervision. Keep children away from the heater and hot sauna stones.
WARNING — HOT HEATER & ELECTRICAL SAFETY
The sauna heater and stones become extremely hot. Keep towels, clothing and other combustible materials away from the heater. Never touch hot surfaces.
Electrical installation and servicing must be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the heater instructions and local requirements.
02. Before Your Session
BEFORE OPERATING YOUR SAUNA
Complete the following checks before beginning each sauna session.
STEP 1 — CHECK THE SAUNA
Ensure the barrel is stable, the interior is clean, the door opens freely and the heater guard is secure.
STEP 2 — CHECK THE HEATER
Confirm that the heater and sauna stones are correctly installed and clear of foreign objects. Refer to the heater manufacturer’s manual for specific requirements.
STEP 3 — PREPARE YOURSELF
Drink water, remove jewellery and other heat-sensitive belongings, and consider taking a shower before entering.
STEP 4 — SET UP SAFELY
Place a clean towel on the bench and keep the floor clear to help prevent slipping.
03. Operating the Sauna
STEP 1 — SWITCH ON THE HEATER
Use the controls described in the separate heater manufacturer’s manual.
STEP 2 — SELECT THE TEMPERATURE
The original Barrel Sauna guide recommends approximately 60–80°C. First-time users should begin at a lower, comfortable temperature setting.
STEP 3 — ALLOW THE SAUNA TO HEAT
Heating time depends on the heater, weather and ambient conditions. Check the actual sauna temperature rather than assuming a fixed preheating time.
STEP 4 — ENJOY A SHORT SESSION
The original manual suggests sessions of approximately 5–15 minutes. Leave sooner if you become uncomfortable.
STEP 5 — FINISH & SWITCH OFF
Turn off the heater according to its instructions. Leave the sauna carefully and allow yourself to cool down.
IMPORTANT — HEATER CONTROLS
Always refer to the operating instructions supplied with your specific sauna heater. Control settings and operating procedures may vary between heater models.
04. Temperature, Timing & Hydration
RECOMMENDED STARTING POINT
Temperature: Approximately 60–80°C, as described in the original manual.
Session Duration: Approximately 5–15 minutes.
Choose shorter, cooler sessions if you are new to sauna use. Individual heat tolerance varies.
REST & HYDRATION
Rest between sessions and drink water before and after using the sauna.
IMPORTANT — LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
Do not remain inside the sauna simply to meet a target time. Avoid abrupt extreme temperature changes if you feel unwell.
05. Heater & Sauna Stones
APPROVED SAUNA STONES
Use only sauna stones approved for your particular heater. Follow the heater manufacturer’s instructions for correct stone placement, inspection and replacement.
SAUNA STONE MAINTENANCE
The original sauna manual advises checking stones regularly and replacing them after approximately 500 hours of normal use. The heater manufacturer’s specific maintenance guidance takes precedence.
WARNING — WATER ON SAUNA STONES
Only add water if your heater is designed to permit it. Follow the heater manufacturer’s instructions regarding water quantity and type. Never pour water onto electrical components.
06. After Each Use
STEP 1 — TURN OFF THE HEATER
Turn off the sauna heater using its designated controls.
STEP 2 — ALLOW THE HEATER TO COOL
Allow the heater and sauna stones to cool completely before attempting any cleaning or inspection.
STEP 3 — REMOVE PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Remove towels and personal belongings from the sauna.
STEP 4 — VENTILATE THE INTERIOR
Ventilate the sauna interior and allow the benches and floor surfaces to dry.
STEP 5 — WIPE UP MOISTURE
Wipe up any remaining moisture and leave the sauna clean and tidy for the next session.
07. Cleaning & Maintenance
AFTER EACH USE
Wipe benches and surfaces with a soft cloth. Remove standing moisture and allow the sauna to dry.
REGULAR INSPECTIONS
Regularly inspect benches, heater guard, door hardware, exterior waterproofing, shingles and steel bands for visible damage or looseness.
Do not use the sauna if any component appears unsafe.
WOOD CARE
The original manual suggests annual exterior wood treatment and light sanding for stubborn marks. Select a suitable product for the timber and local climate.
Do not apply finishes to hot interior surfaces unless the product is specifically approved for sauna use.
HEATER MAINTENANCE
Inspect sauna stones as directed by the heater manufacturer.
IMPORTANT — ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Electrical repairs must be performed by qualified personnel. Do not attempt to open or repair electrical components yourself.
08. Basic Troubleshooting
SAUNA DOES NOT HEAT
Check that power is available and the heater controls are set correctly. Consult the heater manual. Do not open electrical housings.
TEMPERATURE SEEMS LOW
Allow additional warm-up time, check that the sauna door closes correctly and verify the heater settings.
UNUSUAL SMELL, NOISE OR VISIBLE DAMAGE
Switch off the heater, stop using the sauna and arrange an inspection by a qualified professional.
WATER ENTERING THE BARREL
Once the sauna is cool and safe, inspect external shingles, tarp, seals and waterproofing for damage.
